ICT
Curriculum vision
The ICT Department at Parkhall Integrated College provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in an increasingly digital world. Our curriculum is designed to support all learners in developing confidence, creativity and responsibility when using technology, while preparing them for further education, employment and everyday life.
Key stage 3
At Key Stage 3 at Parkhall Integrated College, students are introduced to the foundations of digital literacy. They learn how to use technology safely and effectively, explore basic coding concepts, understand computer hardware and its components, and develop problem‑solving skills. Students also build their confidence using a range of software applications that support learning across the wider curriculum.
Key stage 4
At Key Stage 4 at Parkhall Integrated College, students can choose to study BTEC Level 2 ICT, which provides a practical and engaging qualification. This course allows students to design and develop their own website, create a professional e‑portfolio, and complete an externally assessed unit focused on understanding the online world. We also offer Occupational Studies Level 2 in Website Development, a vocational course that gives students hands‑on experience and an insight into the role of a web developer, helping them to develop real‑world technical and employability skills.
Key stage 5
During Key Stage 5 at Parkhall Integrated College, students continue to build on their ICT knowledge and digital skills through externally assessed units. These explore contemporary and relevant topics such as global information systems, coding practices and the growing impact of artificial intelligence. This stage prepares students well for higher education, apprenticeships and careers within the digital and technology sectors.
Extra-curricular
Sixth Form students are offered an exciting opportunity to broaden their digital horizons by completing a short course in Cyber Security with The Open University. This enriching programme empowers students to build essential cyber‑security skills that are increasingly vital in today’s digital world. Through this course, students will gain the confidence, knowledge, and awareness needed to protect themselves and others online, preparing them not only for future study and careers, but for life in a connected society.
